Hero opens new production facility for Middle East & Africa

Lenzburg/Cairo 17 June 2005 - Hero today has announced the opening of its enlarged and upgraded Jam Factory for the Middle East & Africa in Cairo.

This production facility, certified in June 2005 with ISO 9001, represents an important step in Hero’s strategic plan to strengthen the Supply Chain in its key international growth markets and shows both Hero’s commitment to the Middle East & Africa Region and its belief in the region’s potential.

With a capacity of up to 50,000 tonnes with up to 700 employees, Hero’s Egyptian operations will now be able to realize the full potential offered by the increasing demand for Hero- and Vitrac-branded products in Egypt. Furthermore, this additional factory capacity will enable Hero to further develop its regional export activities currently servicing 22 neighbouring markets with plans for further international expansion.

Hero completed the purchase of 100% of the share capital of the Vitrac business in December 2004 and has since renamed the subsidiary Hero Middle East & Africa.
